Argentine Iguaçu Falls

We toured Iguaçu Falls on the Argentine side on the second day of our visit. We took a small train, a long walk on a metal grate bridge over lots of water, and then we looked into "the throat of the devil." One evening we attended a dinner/show of the music and dances of South America and concluded our trip with a trip to the huge Itaipu Dam between Brazil and Paraguay.

Atlantic Ocean and Botanical Garden

We have been without the internet for a few days, so this is a bit of catch up. The weather most recently has been very nice after a week of quite cold, fall temperatures. We went collecting near the beach and had good success. Lucky for us that we were collecting on a small creek behind the beach because the ocean was kicking up some pretty good waves.

I took another walk through the nearby botanical garden and discovered a small, obviously fake waterfall. My immediate thought was, "I should put that on the blog and entitle it, Shades of Things to Come... Tomorrow evening we will travel to the real thing--Iguaçu National Park.

Easter in Brazil

The Easter Bunny visits Brazil, but is not so much a symbol of Easter as are these eggs. Stores erect frames and hang these eggs like a false ceiling. We had never seen anything like it. There were numerous different kinds of eggs and people buy many of them. As you can see, the eggs are chocolate and are filled with toys and candy. Kids are very excited to receive them.

Landslides in Brazil

This is a photo of a small landslide that was near the seafood restaurant. During our recent collecting trip we saw where there had been numerous landslides. Today we would not be able to go to the beach because the road is blocked. It is raining a lot again. The landslides and flooding have returned and people have died. It is too bad.

Collecting in Ubatuba

Last week we were invited to go collecting near Rio de Janeiro. We were very pleasantly surprised to find that the site was a beautiful beach south of Rio in the state of São Paulo. Our hosts treated us to an extremely nice collecting trip.

We stayed in a posada

next to the beach.

We crossed the river to get to another beach.

We ate at the seafood restaurant.

We pinned at night and battled mosquitoes and blackflies,

collected near a waterfall,

stayed at a Bed and Breakfast in Rio,

and visited Brazil's National Museum.

Life can be tough!
