We first met this fly at Westmoreland State Park in Virginia while on a family vacation. After a subsequent collecting trip and some investigation, Wayne discovered that this was an undescribed species. He elected to name it after Dianne and published a paper describing it. We have tracked it's distribution and have also found it in New Jersey, Florida, The West Indies, and last weekend we found it in Paranaguá, Brazil. This was our conversation--
Dianne: "We should put this on the blog and tell everyone that it is quite a cosmopolitan species."
Wayne: "Or, we could tell them that it's a tramp!"
